Introduction to First Community Party

What the Basingstoke First Community Party stands for:
?
We promote cross party working and accept members with any national political beliefs or those with none.
?
We believe local government should be about local issues not national politics.
?
We want to work with all local parties and councillors to make Basingstoke better.
?
Communities are the bedrock of making Basingstoke a great place to live and they need supporting.
?
The residents and businesses in Basingstoke need to be consulted and listened to by the council on major decisions.
?
Basingstoke and Hampshire County Council must provide value for money and keep council tax, fees and charges affordable.
?
Communities need more youth provision, places they can meet and have youth worker support.
?
Basingstoke has a growing elderly population and we need to provide facilities for their needs. More flexible extra care housing for those who need alternatives to warden-controlled or residential care homes.
?
We have some of the best social housing in the county but all too often people are forced into moving into houses or flats trashed by former tenants, left in disgusting conditions with only ?100 in vouchers for paint to make the home livable. Housing associations and Basingstoke council must provide homes fit to live in before people move in.
?
Communities also need reassurance that they have a safe and secure neighbourhood with more police presence. They need a say in their neighbourhood policing and know the police are accountable to them.
?
Community and volunteer groups provide help and services at a fraction of the cost Councils can. We should support them rather than waste money on extra council employees.

What have we done for you?
?
As councillors we have worked for and supported our communities for over 14 years.
?
Fought for the removal of the Pack Lane humps.
?
Saved over ?1.6million from being spent elsewhere, and used it to build community facilities including the new youth wing and multi-use games area, and still have ?600,000 for new facilities in Beggarwood.
?
Worked with schools and community centres as members and governors to provide new heating, classrooms and facilities .
?
Fought for local families to be housed locally, and in improved housing.
?

We work for and with you every day!
