The much loved town hall building has been saved from demolition by the change of parties that now control the local council. In the face of much critisism the Conservative local members promoted the idea of demolition of the building to be replaced by a new civic centre and business centre.

Needless to say the Town Hall, a film star in its own right (Carry on Doctor and Murder most Horrid) had its own supporters, these coupled with the behind the scenes nature of the arrangements for replacement along with now clear understanding of what a "cost neutral deal" actually meant lost the Conservatives the vote.

The Liberals will now have to disentangle some of the more opaque arrangements advocated by the previous administration and first on the list is the failure of the building company for the market place development.

As the arrangement is that the new office building on the Braywick Road cannot be occupied before the completeion of the market street development we watch with interest.
